2007
Africa
We intend to continue working with the local community council in
MBao, near Dakar, with the view to assisting them obtain
infrastructure loans from the World Bank. In return we will act as
Project Managers for a fee which will be ploughed back in to the
Charities work. We will also be granted land in the proposed
development area and will use some or all of our PM money to
finance a small orphan village and sports facilities for our
sports teams.
We will continue to support our own orphans and the 3 others we
finance. Our work in finding funds to buy stationary, uniforms and
other kit will continue as we try to get more and more street kids
in to school. Where these are older kids we will consider, where
we have the funds, helping them get their own small business off
the ground or financing some form of basic skills training.
India
Our efforts at securing Tsunami Funds from Unicef this year were
not too successful. Our representative has another appointment
with them early this year. Our village was destroyed by the
Tsunami and we have not seen any help from anyone what so ever. We
are aware there is a very large sum, in the hundreds of millions,
from the fundraising unspent but getting hold of some of it is far
from simple!
Others
We are taking very small steps in the Philippines and are helping
at least two street kids go to school. This will be our focus for
the Philippines and again where the kids are to old for school, we
will help them get a small business off the ground or assist them
in getting some basic trade training or other employable skills.
A Message from the Co-founder
Since the inception of Renew Faith some 3.5 years ago I have
carried the responsibility for 90% or more of the money we use. I
am in deep financial trouble, some of which is my fault and some
caused by continuing to support our efforts to help those,
especially children, that can not help themselves.
As the situation is at present, unless I find far more lucrative
work, I will not be able to continue to support all of the work we
do beyond early March. This could force us to close down the
orphanage and find homes for our children. The only other course
of action would be to attempt to merge with another charity doing
similar work - approaches are being made.
Please if you can find some money that you can
donate do so. We will encourage
the kids to write to all the donors. Unfortunately we are only Tax
deductible in Senegal. From an Australian perspective this is
because AusAid, who control all that sort of thing, told me they
have no programs in West Africa and therefore any application for
recognition, then the slog to tax exemption, would not have been
worth the effort.
It still amazes me that the world can spend in the order of $900bn
+
(US) a year on the machinations of war but those same governments
could not find 2.5% of that to go and help Africa and some of the
poorer Asian nations out of their problems. Get mad about this and
write to your local MP and tell them you think it stinks and to
get off their rears and do something about it regardless of
political affiliations etc.
Thank you for your time and for reading this message.

2006 - as it
ended
We are keeping our heads above water and the kids we have are
doing really well in school.
The Football Academy teams are also doing very well despite not a
lot of money.
May 2006
-
A
Football (Soccer) Academy has
been established for Orphan, Street and Under privileged
children.
-
We have also
agreed to take in and care for a number of children in Nigeria.
-
Investigations
in to Philippines and Tonga are ongoing we are hoping to provide
some financial support to a lady in Cebu City in the Philippines
that is helping and homing Orphaned and abandoned children.
We
are registered in Senegal, India and are investigating the
Philippines and Tonga.
Most villages will include there own school which will be made
available to under privileged kids in the local community. Messing
halls are being considered rather than cooking facilities in each
house. The hall can then also double as an adult education centre
for teaching about AIDS. Included in each village will be a
medical centre to be shared with the local community.
Senegal
We
are working closely with Five village communities; They are Petit
Mbao, Keur Mbaye Fall, Capec Camberene and Grand Mbao including
local community leaders in Mbao, doctors and taxi drivers.
In June next year the NGO will be fully recognised by the Senegal
government, at present we have part recognition and have to pay
local taxes when buying goods and bringing in items from overseas.
We are now working very closely with the Mayor (also minister for
transport) and Deputy Mayor of Mbao. They have some land to give
us. They are keen for us to develop our orphan village on it and
later also build housing for disabled people, aged people and
probably lepers too. Our expansion from here is subject to fund
and will be somewhat more rapid.
India
In
India the villagers are aided by our contact a local Pastor and
member of the village community he has twice visited Unicef.
We are keen to work with more experienced and better funded NGO’s
we are also keen to find anyone that can give us time and guidance
with funding applications to Unicef and The World Bank. We are
also interested in hearing from anyone that can help us with World
Bank funding applications and anyone that would like to be a
teacher or medical professional in the village when its ready on a
short or long term volunteer basis we will find accommodation
(basic) for them.
In India there is continued support in one village, and
applications have been made to The World Bank and Unicef for
funding. There are 200 plus kids in the Indian village.
Philippines and Tonga
Research has only just commenced in this area.
